They are sectional and modular in design, allowing them to be used in a wide variety of situations. It was originally meant to escort construction vessels when establishing planetary outposts on unpacified worlds, but are also often used to escort cargo convoys. They were used during the TIE experimental project as mobile remote control ships for pilotless TIE ships. For a subcapital ship, they are quite large and heavily armed.
