  • Activities
  • Rank Limitations
  • What is expected of you?
**NOTE: It is advised that you have some passing familiarity with the Imperial Navy Fleet Manual before taking this exam. While we strive to provide as much useful information in the course notes, some additional information may be required that can be found in this manual.

What is the Starfighter Corps?

While each ship has its own compliment of fighters the Starfighter corps is made up of elite pilots that do the most dangerous and hardcore missions. Realistically the Starfighter Corps (SFC) is the gaming aspect of the navy. While we encourage you to do fiction and run ons your primary mission is to engage other members and clubs in multiplayer combat in a variety of platforms including but not limited to XWA, XvT and EaW.

Positions and Chain-of-Command

STARFIGHTER CORPS:
--- Flight Officer
--- Battle Air Group Commander
--- Squadron Commander
--- Flight Leader
--- Flight Member

Flight Officer (FLO): The Flight Officer oversees all the Wings and various specialty squadrons under his command, issuing deployment orders and other relevant information to the Battle Air Group and Squadron commanders. Through the Flight Officer, the Imperial Navy Fleet Commander is kept up to date on all supply, repair and additional armament requests that may be submitted from lower down the Chain-of-Command. Typically the Flight Officer can be found at the Tian orbital naval shipyards, where the Imperial Navy's primary headquarters, training and ship repair and resupply facilities are located. However during periods of open war he may be assigned to the primary Combat Operations center at Gondor Base to assist the Fleet Commander with combat operations and deployments of the Starfighter Corps' elite squadrons. Only in the rarest of circumstances is the Flight Officer ever found in a fighter, but during major operations could be assigned to the SSD Executor-II where he would serve as the Executor's personal liaison between the Military Council and the Starfighter Corps.

Battle Air Group Commander (BAG): The Battle Air Group commands all fighters in a flight wing or assigned specialty squadrons or flight groups. The BAG works closely with the Flight Officer on assigning missions and activities to the wings or other assigned fighter units. During major combat operatios, and when his squadrons may be assigned to specific fleet ships for a mission, the BAG may be assigned to that ship in order to ensure the safety and proper deployment of his forces. While assigned to a fleet ship the BAG will ensure that the ships Flight Officer is aware of any ordinance or mission parameters that are needed to ensure the success of the elite units under his command.

Squadron Commander (CM): The Starfighter Squadron Commander is a respected position. The Squadron Commander is the first line of command within the Starfighter Corps, and with this position comes a great deal of responsibility in terms of proper conduct, morale and overall activity. The Squadron Commander oversees the day-to-day operations, training and activty of each pilot under his command. The Squadron Commander will submit a weekly recap report to the Battle Air Group Commander outlining successes, requests and/or deficiencies that may exist and need attention. The Squadron Commander holds a great deal of trust and confidence from the senior leadership, and it is up to the commander to ensure that everything that is possible is done to keep the pilots under their command active and communicating at all times.

Flight Leader (FL): Flight Leaders is a pseudo-commander, in that they are essentially overseeing three pilots, but have no real command authority. They assist the Squadron Commander with training and activity, but are not capable of issuing orders of their own. Flight Leaders are in effect future commanders-in-training, and are given a great deal more respect than the standard flight member. Typically personnel that reach this position have shown a genuine level of activity and communication that has caught the attention of the Squadron Commander, allowing them to take the next step towards one day commanding a squadron of their own.

Flight Member (FM): Flight Members make up the guts and back bone of the Starfighter Corps. These brave men and women put their lives on the line flying their craft at lightning fast speeds, and typically against enemies that a regular run-of-the-mill fleet Starfighter squadron would fail against. They fly combat missions against the ID's enemies, while also training on a daily basis to ensure they are combat ready. Flight Members of the Imperial Navy Starfighter Corps are elite pilots, having proven themselves time and again within a standard fleet fighter squadron, here in the Starfighter Corps they are able to further hone their skills, sharpen their abilities, and serve in unique and often deadlier combat missions than most other fighter pilots would see during an entire career within a fleet squadron. To be a flight member in the Starfighter Corps gives a pilot the bragging rights when in the company of typical fighter pilots from line units. Being the toughest of the breed of naval pilots, the SFC pilot often comes out on top in the majority of bar brawls due to their superior skills, agility and tactical sense.

Activities

While activities such as fiction writing and online role playing and run-ons are allowed we try to focus our pilots on multi-player gaming and inter-club multi-player events. #Outterim on the Undernet server of IRC holds inter-club gaming events (ICTE) every Saturday and is a great place to find people for matches on all platforms all throughout the week.

Rank Limitations

The SFC only allows Squadron Commanders to achieve the maximum rank of Captain. At which time you must decide whether to pursue a career in the fleet or stay at your current rank. This to allow us to keep from having Admirals in squadrons, which is completely unrealistic. The exception to this rule are those personnel who are able to climb to higher positions (I.e. Battle Air Group Commander or Flight Officer) at which point the maximum achievable rank is Rear Admiral.

What is expected of you?

Basically we expect you to stay sharp on your gaming. Play single player when you cant find multi-player matches to help keep your edge. Try to play other club members whenever possible. We also ask that you report in at least once a week to your direct superior and participate in one competition a month. Most importantly we expect you to have fun.
