Super Star Destroyer {SSD}

The Super Star Destroyer is one of the largest and most powerful Imperial vessels ever created. It follows the same basic dagger-shaped design of the Imperial-class Star Destroyers, but magnified to a much larger scale. A smooth hull presents an arrowhead shaped profile when viewed from above. Resting in the center of this hull is an "island" of habitable volume. Weapons emplacements bristle on the layered city-like surface. The trapezoidal command tower stands near the aft end of this island, capped with two geodisc communication and deflection/shield domes. The underside of this massive vessel is a busy network of engineering and superstructure. Thirteen colossal engine thrusters glow blood red as they push the immense craft through space.

Though there were a number of these command ships, the most distinguished of these Star Destroyers was Lord Vader's flagship, the Executor. The Executor was the first original Super Star Destroyer, and was presented to Lord Vader by the Emperor to serve as his command ship and the flagship of the Imperial Navy. This vessel led the Imperial Death Squadron after the Battle of Yavin. It also served as the command ship at the Battle of Endor.

At that critical engagement, its commanding officer, Admiral Piett, was tasked with preventing Alliance warships from escaping the battle. He did not expect the unorthodox Alliance strategy of engaging the Imperial Fleet at point-blank range. The Executor was a prime target for repeated barrages from Alliance vessels. Eventually, the Rebel ships were able to penetrate its powerful bridge shields. A wayward A-wing starfighter, crippled and out of control, spun directly into the Executor's bridge. Its control systems destroyed, the Executor was embraced by the second Death Star's gravity well, and the two collided in a colossal explosion that destroyed the flagship.

The Executor-II was built by the Imperial Directorate at the Tian Shipyards. After several years of construction the 7th known SSD in the galaxy took it's place as a major projector of power within the Outer Rim territories. Great pains were taken to ensure that it was a perfect copy of the original Executor. It was seen fit by Lord Salth Khan for the ship to be named in honor of the first and original SSD, and that is how the ship finally got its name. Though the ship has only been in service a short time, the presence of such a massive war machine within the Imperial Navy fleet has caused many would-be enemies around the Imperial Directorate to have second thoughts on engaging in an all-out assault against the fledgling Imperial faction.

During the construction phase a number of problems were encountered. The original plans called for a number of materials and parts that were extremely hard to come by in a post-Galactic Empire galaxy. Thanks to the ingenuity of the Director of Commerce, and the skills of the Director of Intelligence, the necessary resources were obtained to ensure the successful completion of the Executor-II.

While striving to follow the original plans to the letter, Imperial Directorate engineers discovered various flaws within the design, and as a result some minor improvements were made within the engine, shield and weapons designs. Internal space originally lost and wasted in the former SSD's were brought into use, allowing for a greater allotment of barracks and ground equipment. In addition hangar space was increased, allowing for the addition of a number of extra landing barges, shuttle craft and other necessary equipment that would be necessary in conquering planets.

As the latest addition to the Imperial Navy's fleet, the SSD Executor-II has become a major projection of power and fear both inside and outside the Imperial Directorate's territories. With resources continuing to increase within the ID, it is rumored that a variation of the original SSD design may soon be brought to life, and that the ID will soon become the dominating force of the Outer Rim territories. The Executor-II serves as both the flagship of the Imperial Directorate navy, but also the command ship of the Executor of the Imperial Directorate.
