Operations Manual

CHAPTER SEVEN - CODES OF CONDUCT (CoC)

The Codes of Conduct (CoC’s) are meant as guidelines and rules pertaining to the behavior of ALL members in the Imperial Directorate while using mIRC or any other interactive medium (i.e. AIM, MSN, YAHOO Messenger, etc.). These rules are to be enforced WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Holding a certain rank/position will not protect one from the enforcement of these rules. These rules have been created with the best interests of the members of the club in mind. It is our goal to provide a fun and enjoyable environment for all who wish to participate without having to face harassment or insult by disruptive users.

Do NOT abuse Admin access

Abusing Admin access consists of kicking or banning without a proper reason. Changing the topic and channel modes unnecessarily also is considered abuse. Members with the access to kick and ban should warn any offender at least once publicly in the channel before initiating a kick. If the offender returns and continues to cuase problems, then they shall be given a final warning, and then if necessary may be kicked and temporarily banned from the channel. Certain situations may arise where it is accepted that a warning may not be given, such as a repeat offender or an immediate threat to the harmony of the channel presents itself. In such cases authorized Ops personnel are permitted to initiate an immediate kick/ban of that individual, but are then required to report such activity to the EXE and/or CHAN immediately, along with a log of the event.

Penalty: First Offense - Suspension of Admin access pending an investigation by the EXE and/or CHAN.

Do NOT flood the channel or people in a Chat Room

Flooding is a large amount of text displayed in a short time. This is not tolerated in any channel at any time. Flooding members in a channel separately with text, pings or any other method is also not tolerated.

Penalty: First Offense - Kick from the channel that is being flooded, after being warned at least two times by an Admin to cease the activity.

Further Offenses: - Actions are left to the better discretion of the presiding Admin at that time, typically after at least three warnings and one kick have ensued. If additional offenses warrant a ban or removal from the channel, the presiding Admin should forward a report of the incident and a copy of the channel log to the Minister of Communication for further action and investigation.

Do NOT bring clones on a channel

Cloning is when another person enters the channel where they are already present having two (or more) copies of themselves on the one channel. This is allowed only in special cases with permission granted by the Executor only. Caution must be taken when dealing with clones as they may be ghosts as the result of a net.split or peer interruption.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Second Offense - Kicking of all clones and a 30 minute ban

Further Offenses - Depending on the degree of the offense, a ban anywhere from 1 to 5 days may be issued for the clones, subject to determination by the Chancellor or Executor of the Imperial Directorate.

Do NOT use unauthorized bots on ID channel

All bots that are to be used on ID channel must be cleared by the Executor first. This means sending a copy of the script and any relevant information about the bot to the Executor BEFORE it is to be installed into an authorized Imperial Directorate channel.

Penalty: First and any Offense - If an unauthorized bot is found in an ID channel, both the owner and the bot will be banned from the channel for no less than one day and no more than 1 week. The bot shall NOT return to the channel after the ban.

Do NOT impersonate an Officer

On mIRC, impersonating an Officer can be as simple as changing your nick to a rank that you do not hold, changing your nick to another persons known nick or completely changing all IRC information (ident, hostmask, etc.) as well as your nick and pretending to be someone they are not.

Penalty: First Offense - Warning and a kick.

Further Offenses - Ban from the channel for no more than 1 day. Followed by a report to the EXE, along with a channel log.

The EXE should be notified immediately if someone is caught breaking this rule.

Do NOT openly disobey a superior Officer or Op

If an Op or a superior officer gives an order, kicks a person or sets a ban, they are not to be contradicted or argued with in public. If you have a disagreement with the order or action, speak to them in private. If a superior Officer gives an order to a junior Officer it MUST be followed. The Imperial Directorate Command Hierarchy is in effect and must be followed at all times.

Penalty: First and any Offense - This is known as insubordination and is dealt with severely. The violation of this CoC is to be directly taken up with the Chancellor and Executor of the Imperial Directorate for proper disciplinary action.

Respect others in the channel and their feelings

When talking in the channel, be wary of topics of conflict or those that cause harm and hurt to a member of the channel. If this is the case, then that topic of conversation is to be ceased immediately. Offensive topics can be anything from music to religion to politics, so keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable with any discussion. If an Admin is in the channel at the time of the incident, they are to immediately intervene and cease further discussion of the topic.

Do NOT insult others in a channel

Insulting anyone in an ID channel is strictly forbidden. This includes insults based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc. Insults on a Star Wars level are allowed such as Imperials vs. Rebels, ‘nerf herder’ etc. But it is preferred by the Imperial Directorate Military Council that members avoid using insults whenever possible.

Penalty: First Offense - 1 warning

Penalty: Second Offense - Warning and a Kick

Further Offenses - Ban of no more than 1 week, and report submitted to the EXE.

Help other members in the channel whenever possible

Being one of the most popular channel on Undernet, and having members of all ages and walks of life, there will be people who need help in some way that may come into our channels, whether it be ID or mIRC related. All members are encouraged to help other members of the channel whenever possible.

Be a representative of the Imperial Directorate

A member of the Imperial Directorate is a well-respected person, with high standards, is honorable and extremely loyal. These qualities are to be extended onto any communication forum whenever representing the Imperial Directorate. In addition, any members of clubs with whom we are at war, and their allies are not allowed in any ID channel and are to be banned immediately as decreed by the Executor. From past incidents, it has been agreed that the membership of these clubs and the Imperial Directorate be separated, unless otherwise ordered by the Executor of the Imperial Directorate.
