CHAPTER SIX - BYLAWS
All Members of the Imperial Directorate are expected to adhere and abide by the following Bylaws in order to enjoy the Membership privileges of the Imperial Directorate:
I
As users of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the Internet, it is understood that no gross misconduct or deliberate violations of online etiquette will be tolerated or accepted by Members of the Imperial Directorate (i.e. no profanity/vulgarity on public message boards, sending or receiving illegal copies of commercial software, hacking, harassment, abusive conduct, prejudice with regards to race, religion, sex, sexual preference/affectional status, age, or gender).
Members who violate these Bylaws will be given ONE (1) warning from the Executor or Prime Minister. A second violation could result in probation, or even possibly removal from your position as an active member of the Imperial Directorate. It should be noted that most internet Service Providers (ISPs) reserve the right to take whatever action they deem necessary with the offender's accounts (if applicable). This may include notating ISP accounts, suspension or account cancellations.
If a Member violates these Bylaws, he/she runs the risk of having their Internet Service Provider (ISP) contacted if the problem(s) can not be resolved via email and/or online chat.
II
No one may edit, distribute or otherwise modify the materials, domain websites or manuals used by the Imperial Directorate without express written consent of the Executor of the Imperial Directorate. All material within the Imperial Directorate are considered protected by the US Copyright Act. Any violations beyond the "fair use", as detailed in the Us Copyright Code, may be pursued by the applicable author(s) and the Imperial Directorate. This copyright protection claim only extends to original Imperial Directorate member submissions, and does NOT extend to any previously copyrighted materials found in the public domain (i.e. Star Wars and LucasArts files, personal artwork, personal writings, etc.). Any Imperial Directorate materials used online in a "fair use" capacity MUST at a minimum credit the original author(s) or organization.
III
No member of the Imperial Directorate shall profit in anyway by monetary means, or by soliciting commercial services through the Imperial Directorate organization, or its affiliated organizations. Such restrictions shall also be placed on all WWW Domains, Membership email lists, message boards, WWW sites, and other written formats utilized by the Imperial Directorate. Such conduct endangers the entire organization with respect to relations with LucasArts, as well as all affiliated organizations. Such conduct also can tarnish the highly ethical and professions standards by which the Imperial Directorate stands for on the Internet. Such restrictions however do not extend to voluntary donations to the owners of any wWW domains or websites to support the costs and services to provide said domains and websites. The Imperial Directorate is a non-profit organization, and the organization shall NOT be used for monetary gain in any fashion.
IV
Only the Executor of the Imperial Directorate or the Chancellor are authorized to initiate contact with other online organizations with regard to 'Official Business'. Exceptions may be made if a member of the Imperial Directorate has an established contact with another organization and may be asked to initiate such contact for the organization. Any non-ID member requesting contact with the Imperial Directorate should be informed to notify the Executor and/or Chancellor. Members may send independent emails or make contact with Members of other organizations, but do so with the understanding that these contacts are not officially sanctioned or approved by the Imperial Directorate, unless the Executor or Prime Minister have previously authorized such contact. This policy also extends to various media outlets (i.e. magazines, television shows, network and local news stations, Internet organizations, independent WWW media sites, etc.) relating to business on behalf of the Imperial Directorate.
Alliances with other organizations and clubs shall be based on a relationship of joint support and cooperation, allowing the Imperial Directorate to keep its own identity and control in all aspects of its operations. Whereas the organizations shall work together for the good of each organization (i.e. building websites, designing graphics, competing in joint competitions, etc.). Such alliances will be determined based upon the merits of the petitioning organization, and will not be authorized without final say from the Executor of the Imperial Directorate.
V
Imperial Directorate Members shall follow the Chain-of-Command when making general inquiries to the command staff. There is a specific hierarchy to be utilized when asking general questions, making comments, submitting and distributing ID-related materials. Members shall attempt to contact their immediate superior officer first (i.e. Ship Captain or Squad Leader) and then proceed up the Chain-of-Command as appropriate. This is not requested with the intention of restricting communication in the organization, but to maintain a consistent flow of information and ensure that each rung of the command ladder is properly informed in all important ID-related matters.
Typically a member will receive important information and news from their superior officers. Important events and communiqués will be transmitted to the Battlegroup and Battle Air Group Commanders, or Company Commanders, who will then ensure that it reaches their subordinate officers or troopers. Otherwise, important messages will be individually distributed directly by the designated Military Council officer, posted on the authorized Imperial Directorate WWW Domain webpage, or posted on the authorized Imperial Directorate WWW Message Boards.
VI
No development idea, plotline, character development, event or Roster structure revision affecting the Imperial Directorate shall be released to the organization unless authorized by the Executor, Chancellor or other designated Command Officer. The Executor retains the right of final decision in these matters. ANY unapproved or premature postings to the organization run the risk of being withdrawn without prior notice. In addition, ALL Members submitting plotlines or articles for consideration MUST include their ID Line designation for later referral by the reviewing Command Officer.
VII
The Imperial Directorate shall NOT discriminate in its acceptance, promotion or evaluation of Members based upon race, religion, gender, sexual preference, or age. Appointments, Promotions and Medal Awards will be made solely on the basis of performance and activity within the Imperial Directorate, not by preference of any discriminating factor or basis.
VIII
New recruits accepted to the Imperial Directorate will be placed on training status at the Imperial University pending completion of the minimum Entrance Requirements. The Director of Imperial Operations of the Imperial Directorate is solely responsible for the approval of new Members, and oversees their placement and entry to the Imperial University. The Headmaster of the Imperial University oversees the training new Recruits during their initial entrance phase, or at any time after reaching permanent Membership status.
IX
Membership in any organization or affiliation generally will NOT affect a Member's position or rank within the Imperial Directorate, however membership in or association with "enemies" of the Imperial Directorate may present problems that the organization seeks to avoid. Such instances will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the Executor of the Imperial Directorate. Due to an agreement with the Emperor's Hammer, members serving in the EH may not hold a dual membership within the Imperial Directorate.
X
All Member or User submissions to the Imperial Directorate become the property of the Imperial Directorate organization. However, individual Member WWW sites shall remain the property of the individual Members (provided their content is not a copy or plagiarism of existing Imperial Directorate materials). The Executor makes every effort to properly and legally cite the source and/or author of a submission to the Imperial Directorate to ensure the free, unencumbered and unrestricted use of these submissions in order to promote the club and to ensure that these items are posted freely on the Internet or in negotiations with other parties concerning the Imperial Directorate.
XI
To be considered an "Active" Member of the Imperial Directorate, a Member must answer emails approximately once per week. In addition, Members are required to report in weekly to their direct superior Commanding Officer on what activity they have had during the previous week. Failure to report in will be documented and reported to the appropriate Commanding Officer. Failure to report or answer emails after a period of one month shall require the Member to forfeit their current position and be transferred to the Imperial Directorate Reserves, or removed from the Rosters permanently, to be determined by the Prime Minister. Removal from the Rosters shall only occur if the Member in question has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to remain active, and only if such behavior has occured multiple times during a 12-month period.
XII
Command positions within the Imperial Directorate are an integral part to the on-line experience of all Members and the voluntary application and assumption of such duties is welcomed, encouraged, and appreciated. However, because of the importance of continuity in leadership in maintaining the organization, if a Member accepts such a position, receives a related Rank promotion and then resigns (or is removed) within an inappropriately short time (e.g. less than 3 months for Command positions), the Member WILL be demoted to the rank they held before appointment to the Command position.
Command positions require the utmost dedication and serious commitment by a member. These volunteer officers, through their hard work and organization, help to keep the Imperial Directorate running smoothly and efficiently. Members frivolously applying for and then resigning from these positions (i.e. to get a quick jump in Rank or Position) shall not be condoned and such behavior may result in removal from the Imperial Directorate. This policy shall be effective for ALL Command appointments posted after April 29, 2005.
XIII
ALL "front end" WWW Sites incorporated into the Imperial Directorate domain of websites shall PROMINENTLY display links to the Imperial Directorate Disclaimers, Code of Conduct and Bylaws on their front end/welcome/splash pages. Webmasters electing not to update their Imperial Directorate related sites shall summarily remove their pages from the Imperial Directorate domain and will not be considered "official Imperial Directorate related WWW sites."
XIV
The Executor of the Imperial Directorate reserves the right to modify or revise these Bylaws, as appropriate and without prior notice.
